The CGCRI-G&C R I is 4th oldest Research and Development (R&D) Laboratory under the CSIR, DSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. CSIR-CGCRI is dedicated to achieve scientific leadership in the area of advanced ceramics and specialty glasses (including fibre/fibre based devices). Major research activities of the Institute concerns: specialty glasses, specialized optical fibre, Sol-gel processing of glass and ceramics, nano-structured glass and ceramics, engineering ceramics (both oxides and non-oxides), ceramics for bio-medical applications, ceramic membranes, advanced refractories , ceramic sensor, oxide fuel cells & batteries, traditional ceramics (white ware and red clay pottery) etc. Majority of the research projects are funded by government agencies, strategic sectors and private industries.
